Personal In Detail:
I was born in Washington, DC in 1973, and grew up on a horse farm in Gaithersburg, Maryland. In 2003 I completed construction of my home that adjoins our family farm, and married Denise Magner of Harford County shortly thereafter. In September of 2005, we had our first child, William T. Reed V, AKA Liam. I am a small business owner, and started my company in 1994 while still a senior at Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, Virginia. My company, Amberlea Photography & Design, LLC, is a full service photography, marketing and printing company that I run from home. I specialize in real estate, corporate, and event photography in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. I also produce and print real estate marketing brochures and other flyers.
I am a Life Member of the Montgomery County Agricultural Fair and serve as their official photographer. I also have been awarded membership into the Maryland 4-H All Stars and volunteer every year at our food booth at the State Fair. I have been a member of the Maryland National Capital Building Industry Association since 2003, a member of the Maryland Farm Bureau for many years, a member of the Society of Professional Journalists since 1995, and a volunteer with the Washington International Horse Show since 1986. I also have been a hunting member of the Potomac Hunt Club since 2001, and was awarded my colors in 2004, a very prestigious honour. I served as co-chair of the Hunt social committee for two years, organizing an average of one event per month, ranging from a simple hunt breakfast, to dinner and dancing for 200 people, and I now serve as a board member of the Hunt. In 2008 I was elected President of the Potomac Bridle and Hiking Trails Association, a 501-c3 dedicated to preserving and maintaining miles of equestrian trail easements in the Potomac area.
Twenty Five Years of Service to the Local, State and National Candidates of the Republican Party
With a nine year old at her side, Jean Roesser found that people were a lot more willing to speak to a politician at their door. It was her first campaign, and my family’s first real adventure into political involvement. I was an energetic door knocker and accompanied Jean almost every weekend. Over the years she has been an inspiration to myself and so many others.
In 1988 I served as Montgomery County Chair of Students for Bush, and was very active in the 1992 and 1996 effort. In 2000, I worked with the YR’s, Youth Team, Young Professionals for Bush, and the State and local efforts of the campaign. For all of these campaigns, I was the precinct coordinator for my precinct, one of the largest in the State at the time.
I have also served as precinct coordinator for Jean Roesser, Connie Morella, and many others, organizing door-to-door efforts, phone banking, and assistance at the polls, where there are usually 10-15 Dems at a time passing out literature on election day.
I have also donated, or preformed at cost, my services as a photographer to many candidates and the Party for events and campaign literature. In 2000 I offered my services free of charge as the Maryland Delegation photographer at the National Convention, providing over 1,000 photographs to the State Party and the attendees. In the 2006 elections, I served at little or no cost as the official photographer for about a dozen fundraisers and events.
Most recently, in 2007 I was elected Secretary of the Maryland Republican Party in a very close and competitive election.
Four Years of Elected Service to the Montgomery County Republican Party
During my four years on the Montgomery County Republican Central Committee, I have served as newsletter editor for four years, Secretary for one, and second vice chair for two years. As the editor of the Party Line Newsletter, I used my journalism background to produce a top rate newsletter complete with many photos and articles reporting mainly on club and Party events around the county.
I have been a co-chair of the Republican tent at the Montgomery County Fair for many years, providing the life size fiberglass elephant that has become a Fair institution. My connection to 4-H as a 4-H All Star and former club leader has lead me to buy a cake in the 4-H cake auction on behalf of the Republican Party every year. The response is always mixed considering most of the old farmers are democrats. The approximately $300 that I spend for the cake each year goes to 4-H scholarships, and the support of the Party is greatly appreciated by these youngsters.
I also served as co-chair of the 2001 Lincoln Day Dinner committee with speakers Bill Paxon and Susan Molinari, and co-chair and host of the County Party Fall Picnic.
Over 20 Years of Service to the Montgomery County Young Republicans
At the age of fifteen I began my long involvement with the Young Republicans. After starting a Teenage Republican Club at my high school during the 1988 election, I was elected to the MCYR Executive board. We got around the age requirement of 18 with the excuse that I was the TAR liaison.
It was in the early 90’s that the tradition of the MCYR Wine and Cheese party was started at my parent’s home. It has since then evolved into the annual MCYR pool party and has attracted Republican elected officials from across the area. I also helped start the MCYR tradition of the Annual Charity Ball, a black tie event that raised money for charities including Lou Garrig’s disease, the Barbara Bush Literacy Project, and local volunteer fire fighters. After a several year hiatus, we brought the ball back in 2006 to benefit Operation Homefront, a charity helping families of deployed service members.
I have served as treasurer of the club since 1999, served on various other committees, and worked to organize YR precinct walks, candidate forums and various efforts to assist the county party with events such as the county fair and fall picnic. For the 2006 elections, the MCYRs hosted 2 door-to-door/phone bank events from my home, the first with 35 volunteers making over 1,200 contacts, the second with around 70 volunteers making nearly 5,000 voter contacts.
Service to the Maryland Young Republicans
I was elected Maryland YR National Committeeman in 2001. It was a position that fit well with my love of Maryland. As National Committeeman, I had the responsibility of representing my state at four national board meetings per year across the country. A highlight is the National Convention held every two years. The last was held in Las Vegas, where Nicolee Ambrose of Maryland was elected Chairman of the Young Republican National Federation. After serving in that post for 4 years, I was elected in 2005 as the Executive Vice President of the Maryland YRs.
Service to the Young Republican National Federation
In 2005, I was appointed to serve as Resolutions Committee Chairman for the YRNF. This committee actually draws more attention than one might think, due to our members love of bringing forward some rather controversial resolutions, including ones dealing with stem cell research, abortion, parental notification, statehood for Puerto Rico, etc. My term concluded in 2007 at the National Convention in Miami.
